My Philosophy

I believe that any and all birth support should begin with you and your unique beliefs, desires, goals, fears, and needs. I want you to leave your birth knowing that you brought your child into the world on your terms—feeling capable, supported, and informed from pregnancy through postpartum.

Before Birth

I take time to get to know your unique situation in order to understand how I can best support you. This includes your previous experiences with birth, your goals and desires for this birth experience, and more.

Together, we’ll go over your individual birth preferences and fill in any gaps in knowledge you may have about the birth process and standards of care, so you feel confident walking into your birth experience. We’ll also touch on postpartum planning and discuss how you can plan for a restful and nourishing recovery period after birth.

During Birth

I use simple, tried-and-true techniques to create a calm, grounding, and nurturing environment in which you can feel safe and open. I offer physical support in the form of light touch, counter pressure, and massage while encouraging healthy, intuitive movement to support the physiological processes of labor.

I promote open communication in the birth space to make sure you’re able to voice needs, ask questions, and speak vulnerably. I also love incorporating my clients’ various spiritual and personal practices or rituals into labor, and I consider it an honor to hold space for them.

I love supporting partners throughout the birth process and believe they’re an underutilized tool in ensuring a supported and physiologically sound labor. My goal as a doula is take the strengths of your partnership and enhance them, so that you’re able to communicate and be present with one another without stress or distraction.

In the event that I’m needed to advocate for you, I do so with your voice in mind, with the goal of creating a collaborative environment that supports your wants and needs.

After Birth

I believe postpartum is a vital time to slow down, recover, and settle into the rhythms that you want to create as a family. During our postpartum follow up, we’ll talk through your birth experience in order to address anything you feel you might need to process. We’ll also make sure that you’re set up with any postpartum resources you feel you may need for your recovery, including pelvic floor PT, mental health services, etc. I also offer postpartum doula sessions to ensure support at home throughout the immediate weeks postpartum.
