My Philosophy

We all come to birth from somewhere. I believe that my support begins with you and your unique beliefs, desires, goals, fears, and needs.

Before Birth

I take time to get to know your unique situation in order to understand how I can best support you. This includes your previous experiences with birth, your goals and desires for this birth experience, and more.

Together, we’ll go over your individual birth preferences and fill in any gaps in knowledge you may have about the birth process, so you feel confident walking into whatever birth setting you’ve chosen. We’ll also touch on deeper questions that can affect your experience, such as fears or anxieties, and address how we can support them.

During Birth

I use simple, tried-and-true techniques to create a calm, grounding, and nurturing environment in which you feel safe and open to all the details of your experience. I offer physical support in the form of light touch, counter pressure, and massage while encouraging healthy, intuitive movement to support the physiological processes of labor.

I promote open communication in the birth space to make sure you’re able to voice needs, ask questions, and express yourself vulnerably. I hold supportive, compassionate space around all moments of calm, euphoria, ferality, and surrender. I love incorporating my clients’ various spiritual and personal rituals into labor, and I consider it an honor to witness or participate in them.

I believe partners are an underutilized tool in labor support and believe in preparing and involving them as much as possible. My goal as a doula is to honor the strengths of your partnership throughout labor, so that you’re able to communicate and show up for one another without stress or distraction, while offering a balance of feminine guidance and support.

In order to ensure that your voice is heard, I always aim to make sure that you have the necessary time, space, and information you need to make decisions that feel aligned with you. In the event that I’m needed to advocate for you, I do so with your voice in mind, with the goal of creating a collaborative environment between you and your care team.

After Birth

I believe postpartum is a vital time to slow down, recover, and settle into the rhythms that you want to create as a family. During our postpartum follow up, we’ll talk through your birth experience in order to address anything you feel you might need to process. We’ll also make sure that you’re set up with any postpartum resources you feel you may need for your recovery, including pelvic floor PT, mental health services, lactation, etc.
